Diabetes is an illness related to elevated blood sugar levels. “With type 2 diabetes, your body either resists the effects of insulin – a hormone that regulates the movement of sugar into your cells – or doesn’t produce enough insulin to maintain a normal glucose level.” However, 8.1 million individuals might be undiagnosed or unaware of their condition. Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States.  In fact, according to Forbes, nearly “50% of adults living in the U.S. have diabetes or pre-diabetes, a condition where a person already has elevated blood sugar and is at risk to develop diabetes.”
