Blackhead

Blackheads can be really frustrating. As soon as it is found on the face, you want to get rid of it and quick. Well, we are here to tell you that yes, there are natural solutions to your blackhead problem that can not only get rid of those nasty blackheads without any damage to the skin but also save you a lot of money on expensive cosmetic products.

What are Blackheads?

Blackheads are actually another type of acne which are also known as comedo. A comedo is basically a clogged hair follicle in the skin. While you will find a variety of comedones, they all start with the same situation – clogged pores. When dead skin, oil, or bacteria block the pores on our skin, it results in the formation of small comedones, which we now know as whiteheads or blackheads.

Now, if a blocked pore remains open, the oxygen in the air oxidizes the oils. This later results in the acne turning dark brown or black. On the other hand, if the blocked pore closes up, the bump starts looking more white, hence the name whiteheads.

Causes of Blackheads

The problem of blackheads can be traced back to a variety of causes. To understand how to get rid of them, we need first to learn how they are formed and what life choices we make might be responsible for these tiny bumps rearing up on your skin.

1. Poor Diet

The obvious culprit behind a multitude of our problems is the case of a poor diet. This low in nutrition sugary, fried, and high-carb foods can lead to blackhead formation. In addition to poor diet, both caffeine and alcohol can also result in clogged pores.

2. Excess Oil Production

Oily skin will naturally lead to more clogged pores; hence, blackheads are more likely to appear in people with oily skin.

3. Makeup and Cosmetic Products

Makeup and cosmetic products with their artificial ingredients are also responsible for clogged skin. Makeup can also shield the skin from much-needed oxygen.

4. Smoking

Cigarette contains unhealthy substances like nicotine, which is not at all good for our skin. People who smoke are more susceptible to blemishes that can later result in blackheads on the skin.

5. Hormones

Fluctuations in hormones in our body can also result in the formation of blackheads. These fluctuations commonly occur during puberty and premenstrual syndrome for women. A higher concentration of certain hormones in the body can lead to excess oil production, and we already know that oily skin is more vulnerable to blackheads.

Natural Solutions for Blackhead Removal

In their desperation, many people flock to their nearest chemist to purchase skincare products that they believe will take care of those nasty blackheads. Whether or not these products do get rid of the problem, they certainly become an invitation for other serious skin issues due to their artificial, chemical ingredients.

However, many don’t realize that the answer to their blackhead problems resides close to home with natural remedies that are potent without the risk of harmful side-effects. Here are some very simple natural solutions that will take care of your blackheads for you:

1. Steaming

Steaming can be a very effective part of your skincare routine. Steam from hot water can be a perfect solution to loosening of blackheads from the skin pores.

For effective steaming, keep your face clean. Boil a vessel of water, let it cool for a bit before leaning over the bowl with a towel on your head. Take the steam from the hot water for about 10 minutes. Do not lean closer to the hot steam. Once done, wash your face and pat the skin dry gently.

2. Witch Hazel

As far as natural remedies for blackhead go, witch hazel can eliminate excess oil production and help decrease inflammation of the skin. Witch hazel works perfectly as a toner, cleanser, and as a botanical anti-inflammatory to unclog pores and stop the formation of blackheads.

3. Green Tea

Green tea contains polyphenols that can regulate the secretion of sebum in your skin. This can ultimately help the skin pores from getting clogged and forming blackheads.

To apply, you will need:

  •  Two tea bags
  •  Water
  •  Aloe-vera gel

Steep the contents of two tea bags in warm water. Add aloe vera gel to the mixture. Apply this mixture to the blackhead affected area and leave it on for 10-15 minutes to see great results.

4. Everyday Effective Cleansing

The first and the obvious solution to your blackhead problem is gentle and effective cleansing every day. Clean your face everyday morning, and night with a homemade facewash made out of aloe-Vera or honey. Do not cleanse more often than what we have recommended as too much cleaning can dehydrate the skin and lead to excess oil production.

A face wash made of honey, in particular, is really effective as it has been used for ages to treat skin infection and dry skin.

5. Turmeric

The potent curcumin content of turmeric is essential in cleaning skin pores, thus unclogging them. Its antibacterial properties can help prevent the formation of blackheads on the skin.

To apply, you will need

  •  1 tsp turmeric powder
  •  1 tsp water

Mix 1 tsp of turmeric powder with water to make a paste and apply this to the affected area gently. Wash the paste off, once it becomes dry.

6. Moisturizing with Lemon

Blackhead prone skin needs to be moisturized daily to prevent the drying out of the skin. Lemon, with its rich vitamin C content, makes for a perfect natural moisturizer that can eliminate dry and dead skin, thus preventing the clogging of skin. Lemon is responsible for increasing collagen synthesis that can help tighten the pores.

To use, you will need:

  •  1 tsp Honey
  •  1 tsp lemon juice

Blend a tsp of honey and lemon juice, apply the solution to the affected area and leave it be for about 15-20 minutes before rinsing.

7. Cinnamon Powder

Cinnamon is another potent substance that increases collagen synthesis due to its cinnamaldehyde content. As the pores are tightened, this can naturally prevent the formation of blackheads on your skin.

To use, you will need:

  •  1 tsp cinnamon powder
  •  1 tsp lemon juice

Mix cinnamon powder with lemon juice. Apply this paste to the blackhead prone area and leave it for around 20 minutes.

8. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is another gift of nature that naturally moisturizes the skin. Coconut oil can prevent the dryness of the skin, which is the common cause of blackheads. Coconut oil also contains lauric acid that can help prevent the formation of acne.

For effective use, apply extra virgin coconut oil on the blackhead affected area and let it stay until the skin absorbs the oil. Repeat it two times daily.

9. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is the key player in skincare, and when you look at its properties, you realize why. Aloe vera contains Zinc and saponins that tighten pores and cleanse the skin, respectively. It can be used as both a moisturizer and a face wash to keep blackheads at bay.

To use, take ½ tsp of aloe-vera gel and apply it to the blackhead affected area. Leave it overnight and clean it off the following day.

Say goodbye to blackheads for good

It’s funny how the answer to most of our mundane problems can be found in the kitchen cabinet.

Blackheads are something that can be effectively taken care of at home. Although the above remedies are effective enough, there are certain precautions you must take to avoid the clogging of your skin pores.

Make sure to  regulate oil production and avoid using excessive makeup products. Even if you do use them, do not go to sleep with your makeup on. Sleeping is the time when your skin sheds dead skin and rejuvenates. Makeup can hinder that process.

Avoid food that can increase excess production of sebum; this can include dairy products, fast food, and processed food.

The above tips and remedies will help you a great deal in overcoming the problem of blackheads for youthful, glowing skin.
