Yoga

Yoga, as a practice, defines a holistic approach to life. Yoga emphasizes whole-body strength, stamina, and flexibility, beginning with the body’s core.  Yoga is concerned with getting the entire body flowing, thus focusing on the overall wellness of the individual.

Since Yoga is about balance, most of Yoga is about bringing balance to our uneven lives, both figuratively and literally. The imbalance we experience in our lives can be due to a variety of reasons. It can be due to high stress, insufficient sleep, and improper diet. Each of these reasons have their own negative consequences on the body and mind.

The holistic nature of Yoga helps in cleansing the body of the toxins and free radicals caused by our unsavory lifestyles and helps restore our body and mind to its original health.  You can seek the advice of yoga teachers and holistic practitioners to learn about the yoga techniques that can best suit you.

Benefits of Yoga

Building Muscle

Yoga helps build strong muscles that help heal arthritis and back pain. Yoga also prevents the tendency of falling in elders. Yoga gives you the chance to build muscles while also maintaining the body’s flexibility, something a workout session at the gym can take away from you.

Achieving Flexibility

Flexibility is the most obvious benefit of Yoga. Yoga gradually loosens the body and makes movements that were initially impossible easier to accomplish. The renewed flexibility can help heal the body of its various pain points. Tight hips can strain the knee joints; tight hamstrings can cause severe back pain. With Yoga, the hips and hamstrings can be loosened to relieve the body from pain.

Improves Bone Health

Lifting weight can improve the health of your bones. Something that can be accomplished at the gym with help from a pair of dumbbells. The downside of weightlifting is that it hampers the flexibility of the body. However, in Yoga, you are lifting the weight of your own body, thus strengthening the bone while improving the flexibility of your body.

Increases Blood Flow

An intense yoga session can get the blood in your body flowing. Yoga also helps get more oxygen to the cells. Twisting poses help to wring out venous blood from internal organs and allows the flow of oxygenated blood when the twist is released. Inverted poses like headstand can direct the flow of blood from the legs to the heart where it is pumped to the lungs where it can be freshly oxygenated. Yoga also helps boost the levels of hemoglobin and red blood cells in the body.

Drains your lymphs and Boosts Immunity

When your body is stretched and moved, you increase the drainage of lymph. Lymph is a viscous fluid rich in immune cells. This helps fight infections, cancerous cells, and dispose of toxic waste from the body.

Yoga

Prevents Heart Attack

With increased blood flow and constant flow of oxygen to all parts of the body, Yoga decreases the risk of heart attacks. Studies have found that Yoga manages the heart rate, increases endurance, and improves the intake of oxygen during exercise.

Regulating Adrenal Glands

The adrenal glands are responsible for secreting cortisol in response to an acute crisis, thus boosting Immunity. In some cases, the cortisol levels stay high even after the crisis has been averted. These high levels of cortisol can affect our memory and permanently change or brain’s chemistry.

Yoga regulates the adrenal glands and helps lower the levels of cortisol in the body. When cortisol levels are balanced, it can lead to the improvement of long term memory, and lower the chances of depression.

Makes You Happy

Yoga is a great way to relieve your mind of stress. The yoga techniques usually used are focused on the act of breathing. With deliberate slow breaths in and out; Yoga relaxes the body and mind. It pushes us to only focus on the positive aspects of life.

Yoga, with its many health benefits, lowers depression, and stress.

Lowers Blood Sugar

Yoga is responsible for reducing blood sugar levels in the body. Yoga has been found to lower cortisol levels, encourage weight loss, and lower adrenaline levels in people with diabetes. It thus reduces the risk of diabetes-related issues like heart attack, kidney failure, and blindness.

Improves IQ

Yoga helps you focus. Many yoga techniques are meditative practices that improve the concentration of the brain. Studies have found that people who practiced Yoga daily had better IQs and attention spans than the ones who didn’t. People practicing Yoga also demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills.

Help with Sleep

Most chronic ailments can be directly associated with a lack of sleep. An intense yoga session can relieve oneself of the stress that is preventing sleep by relaxing the body and mind. Better sleep means better stamina and concentration.

Prevents Digestive Problems

Stress can severely mess with your gut, thus causing problems like ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome. Yoga can ease the issues in our gut and aid indigestion. It can also eliminate the risks of serious illnesses like colon cancer.

Benefits Your Social Life

Stress, depression, and rage have destroyed many relationships around the world. As the fundamental advantage of Yoga is to relieve stress, it can help you achieve a positive perspective on life. It can help you be more focused on your loved ones, and always greet them with a smile. Yoga makes you more friendly and compassionate.

Yoga is the practice of cleansing the entire body and mind of all the toxins that are restricting you from living a happy life. Getting the help of a yoga expert can help you restore the youthfulness of both your mind and body. It is a practice that has helped many and continues to work miracles for those suffering from a chronic ailment or any form of distress for that matter.

Yoga, in a nutshell, is the very definition of what a holistic life entails.
