When seeking to improve your quality of life, taking the first steps towards your goals can seem intimidating, especially if you’re not sure exactly where to navigate. Personal health and wellness can appear ominous to those who aren’t sure exactly where to begin their journey of self development and discovery. However, there are many non-invasive methods of self improvement, health, and general wellness that serve to help you further your ‘whole’ self; in other words, methods of natural and holistic medicine can help you improve your life experiences

Holistic nutrition is the unique practice of dietary nutrition that uses natural foods and vitamins to rectify wellness issues. This approach also takes into account the lifestyle habits of each individual patient to better the unity of the mind, body, and soul, and help patients be able to maintain a better overall quality of life. Holistic nutritionists seek to better the basic functions of the body with the goal of unifying the physical, mental, and even spiritual components of oneself in order to get the body to work in conjunction with the world around it. When exploring holistic health, nutritionists focus on the idea of the whole self as opposed to the more typical medical approach of addressing one symptom or issue at a time.

Holistic health, wellness, and nutrition give priority to the wellbeing of the whole body, mind and spirit, while other methods of alternative medicine can target slightly more specific areas of the self that many need strengthening or improvement. Alternative medicines are generally used as a type of therapy to relieve issues with the body and/or mind in a natural way. While more mainstream or traditional medicines may be invasive to the body and mind, alternative medicines focus on keeping the energy of the body balanced and whole. Acupressure, spiritual healing practices, mind-body interventions, energy therapies, and ADHD testing are all common yet dramatically different examples of alternative medicine being used to alleviate and remedy different challenges within the body.

 

In addition to holistic and alternative medicinal practices, life coaching of all different varieties is an extraordinarily productive way to be held accountable for the betterment of your life. Life, wellness, and health coaches work in different ways to help you fully realize your potential and your goals, and then help you organize your motivations and take the steps to reach those goals. Comparable to a personal trainer for both the mind and body, life coaches help you externalize your internal energy, thoughts, and inspirations to help you reach a point of self actualization.

Life coaches work with you to identify your strengths, interests, and talents and work with you to plan and execute how those areas can help you improve your career, interpersonal relationships, and ultimate fulfillment in life. As opposed to traditional therapy, life coaching is focused on the setting and attaining of personal goals rather than specifically mental health. Essentially, life coaching works as the inverse of therapy by actually helping you achieve goals physically and mentally instead of employing the use of conversation and prescription drugs to improve your mental health. A wellness coach, while similar to a life coach by way of their goal-and-result treatment method, focuses mainly on your physical and emotional state to assess how you should go about your day-to-day life.

While life and wellness coaches give focus to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, health coaches are focused primarily on longevity and physical health. In this way, they differ from the slightly more holistic approaches of life and wellness coaches, though they still serve a great purpose in the overall strength of the mind and body. Of course, emotional and spiritual components of the mind are integral to the flourishing nature of self actualization, and health coaches act as a variant of a life coach in that way. In addition to implementing healthy practices in your own life, health coaches help you to inspire others to take on more healthy habits and life choices.

While the idea of natural medicine and holistic approaches to nutrition and life organization may seem unnerving when compared to more mainstream medicine, it is oftentimes overlooked that alternative medicines bring about a clearer, longer-lasting, and more fulfilling quality of life. The non-invasive nature of holistic wellness and health requires patients to exert more conscious effort into the betterment of their own lives and the lives around them, making for a more accomplished and whole completion of self actualizing techniques. Especially when multiple methods of natural holistic treatments, such as holistic nutrition and life coaching, for example, are paired together, self realization becomes a more easily attainable goal. Natural medicine, while it can appear somewhat abstract, can stand to assist those in search of a life full of accomplishment and satisfaction, no matter the size of your goals.
